Font Notes:
There is an entry for Exhall [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP1055/exhall/] [accessed 20 November 2014], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Warwick, vol. 3, 1945) notes: "The church at Exhall was dedicated by Simon, Bishop of Worcester, c. 1125–35, who declared it to be a chapelry of Salford [...] The parish church [...] is a small building with a nave dating from the 12th century, and a 13th-century chancel. It was much restored and in part rebuilt in 1862, mainly at the cost of the then rector […] The font has a tapering round bowl on an octagonal stem; it is possibly an ancient bowl reworked but shows no signs of former staples for the lid. The other fittings are modern." NB: unless the upper rim was so trimmed as to erase any trace of the old staples, the font is more likely to be 19th-century]
