No entry found in the Domesday survey for Puxton. The font here is not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). English Heritage [Listing NGR: ST4066763257] (1961) reports: "Norman tub font, scraped, C17 strapwork cover." The Congresbury-Puxton Parish web site [http://www.standrewscongresbury.org/history.php#top] [accessed 25 September 2008] notes: "The 12th century font rests on an older inverted font." The upper half is egg-cup shaped, and has a decorative moulding at the upper rim; the lower half, now serving as base, is of hemispherical shape and appears totally plain. [NB: there is nothing apparent on the lower half to substantiate the claim [cf. supra] of it being older than the upper half]
