Font Notes:
No individual entry found for Cold Aston in the Domesday survey, but the National Archives has an entry under 'Estone', Folio 165r Great Domesday Book [http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/details/r/D7305663] [accessed 6 February 2019]. Verey & Brooks (1999-2002) write: "Font. Of 1876, Perp[endicular] style." The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Gloucester, vol. 9, 2001) notes: "Cold Aston church dates from the 12th century and is first found recorded c. 1220. [...] Among new fittings and furnishings introduced in 1876 were a stone bowl for the font". Octagonal basin with foiled panels, alternately filled with blanks and emblems in shields; on a moulded octagonal pedestal base. The wooden cover is octagonal and flat, with metal decoration and ring handle, contemporary with the font. [NB: we do not have any information on the earlier font(s) of this church].
