Font Notes:
There is an entry for Coberley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SO9615/coberley/] [accessed 29 January 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Gloucester, vol. 7, 1981) notes: "Coberley church was evidently granted to Leonard Stanley Priory, which Roger of Berkeley (II) founded c. 1131 and which became a cell of Gloucester Abbey in 1146, [...] but c. 1188 the abbey and priory surrendered their rights in the advowson to William of Berkeley. [...] The walls incorporate 12th-century fragments but the church was extensively rebuilt and enlarged in the mid 14th century [...] nd the earliest features in situ, the south doorway and porch, are of that date"; no font is mentioned in the VCH entry. Verey & Brooks (1999-2002) note: "Furnishings almost entirely by Middleton, including an interesting Victorian Perp[endicular] font" [NB: this same source notes the Norman roots of this church, a major re-building ca. 1347, and the 1868-1871 renovation by "John Middleton, of Cheltenham" -- we have no information on the earlier font(s) of this church]
