There is an entry for Titchfield [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU5405/titchfield/] [accessed 26 June 2018] but it mentions neither priest nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Hampshire, vol. 3, 1908) notes: "The church [...] is a fine and interesting building, with a long architectural history, the lower part of its tower and the west end of the nave being probably the oldest piece of ecclesiastical architecture now standing in Hampshire. The church to which they belonged had an aisleless nave probably of the same dimensions as the present [...] it is possible that this building may have its origin in the ninth century, or even earlier. [...] The tower seems to have been raised to its present height about the same time [...] The first book of the registers contains entries from 1589 to 1634 [...] The font at the north-west of the nave is modern". The modern baptismal font is noted and illustrated in Southern Life [www.southernlife.org.uk] [accessed 12 September 2008]: "Font (north arcade) 1951. Octagonal with alternate representational and symbolic carvings in relief, by Charles Upton." [NB: the church goes back to Anglo-Saxon times, but we have no information of the earlier font(s) of this church]
