Drawing of a font in the Harvey Pridham Drawings of English Fonts (MS 56). [Folder Number, Item Description]. University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries. Special Collections Dept., done by Harvey Pridham in February 1889 accompanied by the following description: "Octagonal, of black stone. The moldings between the 2 horizontal joints above stem are modern. Circular bowl inside, no lead, vertical sides, flat plan 10 7/8 deep, 3 1/2 margin. Modern cover." Noted in Buck (1951) as a group of octagonal baptismal fonts with simple plain mouldings and dating from the late 12th or early 13th century in the county of Wiltshire, at Alderton, Blunsdon St. Andrew, Broad Hinton, Collingbourne Kingston, Corston, Fonthill Bishop, Idmiston, Lydiard Tregoze, Marden and Melksham. Noted in Pevsner & Cherry (1975): "Font. Plain, but powerfully moulded. Octagonal; of Purbeck marble. Probably C14." The Wiltshire Community History [http://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/community/getchurch.php?id=909] [accessed 8 September 2008] notes: "font, in Purbeck marble; it is octagonal and on a stem and base" and dates it to the 14th century.
