Font Notes:
There is an entry for Corsham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/ST8670/corsham/] [accessed 6 September 2020]; it reports "2 churches. 3.0 church lands" in it. A font here is described in 'Church notes...' (1887) in the context of some "notes [that] were taken between 1835 and 1840": "The font has a large octagonal bowl, and is probably Decorated." Noted in Pevsner & Cherry (1975): "Font. Octagonal, Perp[endicular], with quatrefoils." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST8742470553] notes: "Anglican parish church, C12 origins, early C14 north aisle, later C14 south aisle and east end remodelled in C15. Heavily restored 1875-78 by G.E. Street when central tower was removed and south tower and spire added [...] C15 octagonal font." The font, which may have had some re-tooling, consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides deeply carved with floral motifs inscribed in quatrefoils; the underbowl is graded on the upper half and has a slightly concave chamfer below; the octagonal pedestal base is panelled on the sides and moulded at the bottom. The wooden cover is octagonal and flat; modern. [NB: we have no information on the font of the Domesday-time church here]
