The Bayntun History site [http://www.bayntun-history.com/StNicholasChurch.htm] [accessed 30 August 2008] informs:"The original font was either lost or broken, most likely during the Civil War […] The present font in the church (pictured left) dates from around 1660 – the time of the Restoration of the Monarchy". Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin the belly of which curves at the underbowl tapering to meet the thin pedestal base; the upper rim has a substanial moulding and there are octagonal pillars at the angles; the latter end in carved-through knobs; the side panels of the basin have trefoiled arches or windows; there is a moulding at the place where the underbowl meets the base; the pedestal splays out and is moulded at the lower end. The wooden cover is octagoanl and flat; probably Victorian. [NB: this font is probably mid-17th century, Restoration period; we have no information on the original font of the Norman church, but there is one other font kept in the church -- cf. Index entry for Bromham No. 2]
