A more recent baptismal font that can be transported about the church appears to be the one in use, having replaced the 19th-century wooden font [cf. supra]; it is made of metal, the work of Bernard Delagrange (1935-2006); it is described and illustrated in Véronique Schmitt's Les fonts baptismaux Ces fonts baptismaux peuvent être transportés dans différents endroits de la cathédrale selon les besoins [https://www.amis-cathedrale-bourges.com/visite-de-la-cathédrale/curiosités/fonts-baptismaux/] [accessed 29 September 2023]. Chancel-Bardelot (2008) notes that the westernmost chapel on the north side, known as the "Chapelle des fonts baptismaux", was founded in the 1400s by archbishop Pierre Aimery, but underwent a major renovation in the 17th century; she illustrates the late font, captioned as dated to 1812, of wood, painted and gilded, and gives the measurements [cf. Description area]. The Patrimoine de France database [www.patrimoine-de-france.org] [accessed 20 August 2008] describes the cathedral font [ref. PM180000058] as being of the mid-18th century. [NB: we have no information on the font(s) of the medieval church here].
