There is an entry for Marlborough [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU1869/marlborough/] [accessed 11 November 2017]; it mentions church lands and a church in it [probably a pre-Conquest church that later became St. Peter's]. The Wiltshire Archaeological and Natural History Magazine (vol. XIX, 1881: 20) reports on a visit by the members of the Society to the Upper School of Marlborough College, and to its Temporary Museum [sic] which displayed, among other objects of interest, "a stone font, by Mr. G. Harrison" [NB: there are no further particulars of the object given in the report, nor have we come across any other information on this font -- Pevsner & Cherry (1975) give particulars of the College and mention the Museum Block, but not the font noted in the WANHM above]. Buck (1951) mentions a 19th-century Gothic Revival font at Marlborough St. Peter's on which appear the symbols of the Evangelists [NB: we are not certain whether or not these two references are to the same font]. [cf. Index entry for Marlborough No. 1 for the font at St. Mary's]
