Allen (1839?) writes: "By ancient records it appears that there was a church on this spot […] before the year 1331 […] the old structure was destroyed by the fire of London [1666] and the present edifice erected in its stead […] built by sir Christopher Wren, 1679 […] a neat circular marble font, with a carved oak cover is situated in a pew before the north gallery". There is no mention of this font in Blatch (1995) [NB: we have no information on the earlier fonts(s) of this church]
