Allen (1839?) reports a church known to have existed here in 1319, but the present building, "shews no visible remains of that period, the style of architecture marking the period of its erection at an æra at least a century later […] The font is a plain marble basin of an octagon form; it now occupies a pew near the east end of the north aisle". There is no information on the date of the font noted in Allen above, but it would not have been from the medieval church. It might have originated in one of the several restorations the church underwent in the 17th through the 19th centuries. That font probably disappeared, as the two mentioned in Blatch (1995) sound quite different: "The attractive and well-designed font replaces a Victorian one. It is moveable and made out of Canadian hardwoods. It was a gift for the post-War restoration from St Olave's church, Toronto in gratitude for receiving a font from St Olave, Hart Street when their church was being built between the Wars." [the TO font to be followed up]
