Allen (1839?) reports that the parish church of St. Michael "was destroyed by the fire of London, in 1666 […] The present structure was finished a few years later [… and] is one of the meanest erected from the designs of sir Christopher Wren […] The font is situated in the north-east angle; it is a plan polygonal basin of marble on a pillar". Baltch (1995) notes that St. Michael was demolished and accounts for its pulpit [in St. Mark's, Lambeth], and part of the reredos [in St. George the Martyr's, Southwark], but not the for the font [nor de we have any information on the font from the earlier building]
