Allen (1839?) notes : "The old [medieval] church being destroyed by fire, in 1666, the present building was erected in 1673 […] from the designs of Sir Christopher Wren […] The font is a circular basin of white marble, on a column of the same form, it is more modern than the church". Blatch (1995) reports that the church of St Benet Fink was demolished in 1844.
