Allen (1839?) notes: 'This church was destroyed in the great fire [of] 1666, but was soon after rebuilt in a handsome manner, after the designs of sir C[hristopher] Wren […] The font is a circular basin of marble, on a stone terminal pillar, the cover is a square church qith a flower-pot and bouquet tastefully carved, attached to each face.'' In Blatch (1995): ''Given by three parishoners in 1683, it is of marble with a nice oak cover looking like a house. The figure of Charity appears in a cartouche on the top.'' Baltch (ibid.) notes that there was ''a stone church on the site mentioned in 1067 dedicated to St Magnus'', but its font, together with the church itself, was probably destroyed in the London Fire.
