There are six entries for this Bramley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TQ0044/bramley/] [accessed 22 May 2015], one of which mention three churches in it. Brayley (1850) writes: "Near the western entrance is the font, of Sussex marble, thus inscribed:-- 'Hec dono Henrici Ludlow de Bramley, Ar. 1708.'" The Victoria County History (Surrey, vol. 3, 1911) notes parts of the church that date back to the mid-12th and the early-13th centuries but it adds that ''The present font is modern''. The entry for Bramley in English Heritage [Listing NGR: TQ0087944907] (1960) reports: "Old octagonal stone font now outside the church; C19 marble octagonal font inside." The present font consists of an octagonal basin with vertical sides decorated with charged shields painted, in octafoil panels; the inner basin well is lead lined; the underbowl chamfer has graded mouldings; the octagonal pedestal base is decorated with tracery panels; plain octagonal lower base and plinth of the same [NB: we have no information on the whereabouts of the earlier font(s) of this church]
