There is an entry for Sessay [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SE4575/sessay/] [accessed 29 November 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Sheahan & Whellan (1857) report that ''not far from Sessay is the site of a more ancient village, called Old Seysey'', in which there is a yard known locally as the 'Church yard' or 'Church farm', and ''it is supposed that the original Church of the parish'' stood in it; in that yard, ''what appears to be the ancient holy water stoupe [sic], is now used as a flower pot in the garden''. There is no mention of either church, yard or stoup in Pevsner (1966).
