Noted in Bagshaw (1846): "The church […] rebuilt in 1648, it contains an ancient font." White's Directory of 1857 describes the font also as ancient. Cox (1875-1877) notes that Carsington was a parochial chapel of the mother church of Wirksworth ca. 1100, and is documented as parochial in the 1281 Taxation Role of Pope Nicholas IV. Cox (ibid.) further notes: "Inside the church is a good octagon font standing three feet high, and two feet in diamter at the top. The chamfered angles at the base are carved into four small heads. The mouldings prove this to be of fourteenth century work." Kelly's Directory of 1891 states: "The octagonal font is of early date". The Derbyshiredales diistrict report on 'Listed Buildings in the Parish of Carsington' [www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/NR/rdonlyres/49AC15C5-1131-42B5-8F4A-EFB90DC8B55B/0/Carsington.pdf] [accessed 1 July 2008], notes : "Stone font with octagonal raised and fielded cover with finial". The Derbyshire Family History Society page [www.dfhs.org.uk/index.php?id=carsnotes] [accessed 1 July 2008] states that the font was made in the 14th century.
