INFORMATION

Font ID: 13535ASK
Object Type: Baptismal Font1
Font Century and Period/Style: 14th - 15th century, Medieval
Church / Chapel Name: Parish Church of St. Oswald
Font Location in Church: Inside the church, by the organ
Church Patron Saint(s): St. Oswald of Nothumbria
Site Location: North Yorkshire, Yorkshire and the Humber, England, United Kingdom
Directions to Site: Located off (N) the A684, in Wensleydale, about 20 km W of Wensley
Additional Comments: disused font
Font Notes:
One of three vessels located in the interior of St. Oswald's [though Pevsner mentions none of them]. This font, no longer in use for baptisms, stands near the organ and consists of an octagonal basin with plain slightly concave sides and a tall chamfered underbowl with equally shaped panels; short octagonal stem; round plinth. The upper rim of the basin is badly damaged. It is possible that this font may be the original from the Late Perpendicular church [ca. 1467?]
