There is an entry for this Preston [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SE0691/preston-under-scar/] [accessed 19 July 2014], but it mentions neither church nor cleric in it. One of several miniature or replica fonts, less than a foot in height. These fonts resemble the full-size ones in shape and ornamentation, and appear to be -and have been- used as portable fonts. This particular one consists of an octagonal basin the sides of which are decorated with symbols (cross, star, etc.); the underbowl chamfer is slightly concave and plain, as is the octagonal base.
