Kelly's Directory of 1883 reports: "The font is very old, evidently Early English". Wade & Wade (1929) report a "square Norm[an] font" in this church. Described in Pevsner (1958): "Square, Norman, fluted on the underside" [NB: the fluting would be the one created by the 'trumpet scallops' on the lower sides of the basin]. Described in Phil Draper (2004) [http://www.wishful-thinking.org.uk/genuki/SOM/Weare/StGregory2.html] [accessed 8 April 2008]: "Bulky square Norman font with chamfered corners and some scaloping underneath (as well as damage too)".
