No entry found for Wayford in the Domesday survey. The font here is described in Pulman (1854) as "very large and of octagonal shape" and located under the west gallery. Wade & Wade (1929) report "an old octagonal font" in this church. Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 4, 1978) notes: "A chapel at Wayford was first mentioned in 1266 [...] The chapel, with cure of souls, was a daughter to Crewkerne, though the incumbent was always styled rector [...] It is a small plain stone structure, mostly rendered, comprising chancel, north vestry, nave, north aisle, south porch, and western bell turret. The chancel and nave are of later-13-th-century origin" [there is no mention of a font in the VCH entry]. The entry for this church in the British Listed Buildings site [Listing NGR: ST4048006655] reports: "plain octagonal font of uncertain date, but possibly C14". The entry for this church in the Wulfric Benefice site [www.wulfric.org/our-churches/st-michael-and-all-angels-wayford/] [accessed 14 February 2018] notes: "The octagonal font is 14th century."
