There is a July 1789 ink-wash-on-paper drawing of a font in this church, by Samuel Hieronymus Grimm (1733-1794) in the British Library collections [Shelfmark: Additional MS 15547 - Item number: f.102]. The Handbook for travellers… (1869) reports a Norman font in this church. Lewis (1876) notes the "fine Norman doorway with pellet and chevron moulding, which has been removed from the south to the west of the church. This, and the octagonal font which has been however raised on a plinth are the only remains of a Norman foundation." Wade & Wade (1929) report that a "good Norm[an] doorway, now built into the N[orth] porch, and a Norm[an] font, are relics of the original church". Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958).
