There are three entries for Seavington [Abbots, St Mary and St Michael] [variant spellings] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/seavington-abbots-st-mary-and-st-michael/] [accessed 27 February 2018]; one of the entries reads "Ista eccl[esi]a ten[et]", presumably referring to the Abbey of Athelney, but no other mention of a church or cleric is made in the entries. Wade & Wade (1929) report a "plain round font" in this church. Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 4, 1978) notes: "The church of Seavington St. Mary, a dependent chapel of South Petherton, augmented if not founded by the Vaux family, occurs early in the 13th century [...] The nave and chancel appear to be of 13th-century origin but only the chancel arch, with its flanking recesses towards the nave, is relatively unaltered [...] fittings include a 12th-century font, which may be evidence for an earlier building". The entry for Seavington St. Mary's in the Churches Conservation Trust web site [http://www.visitchurches.org.uk/content.php?nID=11®ion=Somerset&offset=1&churchID=251] [accessed 5 April 2008] notes: "The oldest feature is the plain circular Norman font." Noted in the British Listed Buildings site [Listing NGR: ST4028814920]: "Simple circular tub font, possibly C12".
