No entry for Rimpton found in the Domesday survey. Kelly's Directory of 1883 reports "an ancient font" in this church. Wade & Wade (1929) report an "ancient font" in this church. Described in Pevsner (1958): "Octagonal, Perp[endicular], with Jacobean cover." The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 7, 1999) notes "Tere was a church at Rimpton by 1291 (fn. 133) but tenants had paid churchscot from 1215 or earlier [...] The chancel appears to have been built in the late 13th century and the north doorway of the nave and the tower are of the late 13th or early 14th century [...] Among the fittings are a 15th-century font with a 17th-century cover".
