Font Notes:
There are two entries in the Domesday survey fot Litcham [variant spellings "Lecham" and "Licham"], the one which had been granted by the Conqueror to the ubiquitous Hermerus de Ferrariis having "the moiety of the church, with 4 acres", as noted in Blomefield (1805-1810), and described as: "The Church is dedicated to All-Saints, is a neat, regular pile, with a nave covered with reed, a north and south isle, and a chancel covered with lead; at the west end of the nave, a square tower of brick, with coins of free-stone, and embattled, with a clock and dial". The present font here is noted in Pevsner & Wilson (1999): "Octagonal, Perp[endicular], with hung-up shields in cusped panels." Noted and illustrated in Knott (2006): "The old font sits quietly at the west end, shields set within tracery on each side." The font consists of an octagonal basin -decorated as per Knott's description- with a chamfered underbowl, raised on an octagonal pedestal base with blind arches on the sides; the whole is raised on an octagonal plinth. The wooden cover is round, flat and plain; modern.
