Font Notes:
Wade & Wade (1929) report a tub font of the 12th century in this church. Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). The font is now [February 2009] coated in thick whitewash; it consists of a tub-shaped basin with a single moulding all around [NB: this could be a metal reinforcement belt, rather than a moulding; the whitewash makes it look like a moulding]; raised on a cylindrical stem decorated with a tall zigzag moulding; the lower base appears shaped like a cushion-capital; stands on a two-step plinth. The wooden cover is an octagonal pyramid with a crwon-like lower platform; appears Victorian (?) [NB: the present church is said to date from the 15th century; perhaps this font belonged to an earlier edifice?]
