Font Notes:
Harrison (1920) writes: "This is considered to be the smallest church in England, measuring 16 feet square, but it is only a portion of the chancel of the original church, which may be traced westward"; he does not mention a font in it. The present font in this church is a composite object consisting of a large square basin, raised on a thin pedestal stem [modern?] and a quadrangular lower base or plinth. The wooden cover is square and plain, probably modern. There is much damage and repair to the sides of the basin. Described and illustrated in the CRSBI (2008): "The font is said to have been found, partly broken, in a neighbouring garden". A more recent [2004] photograph of this font can be found in the Roughwood British Churches Album [www.roughwood.net/ChurchAlbum/EastSussex/Lullington/Lullington2004.htm] [accessed 26 March 2008].
