There is an entry for this Edington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST3839/edington/] [accessed 25 April 2018], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Wade & Wade (1929) report: "The church has been rebuilt (1877-79), and contains no ancient features except a very good Norm[an] font". Described in Pevsner (1958): "Bowl with two big scallops each side. Cable-moulding below and cable moulding on the base. Corner spurs." The Victoria County History (Somerset, vol. 8, 2004) states: "The font in Edington church indicates a foundation by the earlier 12th century [...] The large, early 12th-century font, with cable mouldings and scallops [...] survive from the earlier building." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST3870939797] reports: "Good Norman font, bowl with 2 large scallops to each face, corner spurs and 2 cable mouldings; good late C19 cover." Raised on a moden lower base, to which the lower rope moulding appears to belong. The wooden cover is square and flat, with metal decoration and handle; late-Victorian..
