Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958). The National Monuments Record, English Heritage [http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/details/default.aspx?id=32468] [accessed 10 September 2009] has: "Font is C12, ashlar, a cylindrical stem, an octagonal bowl with a cushion base". The baptismal font at St. Margaret's is a composite one; the basin and the upper half of the stem appear to be original; the lower half of the stem, the moulded lower base and the plinth are a modern replacement. The basin is square, with widely chamfered angles that make it practically octagonal; the sides are cushion-capital shaped but it is not as tall as the usual for the period; there is a thin moulding where the underbowl joins the stem; the stem itself is cylindrical and plain. The wooden font cover matches the outer shape of the basin, and is flat, with a ring handle; appears modern.
