There is an entry for this Brushford [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/SS9125/brushford/] [accessed 11 February 2023]; it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Kelly's Directory of 1883 notes: "the font is very old, apparently of Norman date; it is of Purbeck stone, and square; the pillars on which it once stood are lost". The George Eastman House Still Photograph Archive has a photograph (negative, gelatine on glass) of this font by Catharine Weed Ward, taken ca. 1891-1912. Noted in Wade & Wade (1929): "a font, of which the bowl and base date from the 13th cent[ury]". Described in Pevsner (1958): "Square, Norman, of Purbeck marble, with six shallow blank arches on each side." The National Monuments Record, English Heritage [http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=429118] [accessed 17 September 2009] describes the font as 13th-century and notes that it was restored in 1890. Noted in Leach (1975) as a font made of Purbeck marble: "bowl with six panels on each face" [source given: Pevsner, South and West Sommerset, 1958]. The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: SS9194925736] notes: "Parish Church C15 [...] Square Purbeck warble font with arcaded sides [...] font restored" [1890?]
