There is an entry for [Abbots] Morton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP0255/abbots-morton/] [accessed 3 November 2014], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Miller (1890) reports: "The font is probably Norman". Abbots Morton Worcestershire 1939 [www.parishmouse.co.uk/worcestershire/abbots_morton#abbots_morton_worcestershire_1939] [accessed 3 November 2014] describes the font as 12th-century, but re-cut. A font here is noted in the Parish's web site [www.abbotsmorton.info/st_peters.htm] [accessed 28 February 2008]: "The lovely old Font is [...] Norman". No mention of a font in Pevsner (1968) or Brooks & Pevsner (2007). English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP0267554974] (1959), however, reports: "late C19 plain circular font in C12 style". [NB: the present external appearance of the font is likely to elicit a rejection as ancient, but the bucket-shaped basin could very well be of 12th-century date -- needs closer examination of the inner well, rim, etc.]
