There is an entry for Combe [Hay] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/ST7359/combe-hay/] [accessed 28 November 2017], but it mentions neither priest nor church in it. Drawing of a font here found in the Harvey Pridham Drawings of English Fonts (MS 56). [Folder Number, Item Description]. University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries. Special Collections Dept., done by Harvey Pridham in 1887 accompanied by the following description: "Position, at W. End of Nave walk, nearly under open arch with Tower. Hexagonal [cf. infra]. Very irregular stone bowl. Inferior lead bowl is circular, margin 2 1/4 sides same rake as external stone: depth 5 3/4. No cover." It is unclear whether this font or any part of it is part of the original one drastically re-tooled. The font consists of a tapering octagonal [not hexagonal, as claimed by Pridham - cf. supra] basin raised on a cylindrical pdestal base that has mouldings at the lower base and at the centre ring position; if the measurement of the depth of bowl in Pridham is correct it is a shallow basin. The wooden cover consists of an octagonal platform on which eight scrolled ribs are arranged around a central pivot in the usual Jacobean font-cover model; modern.
