Reported in an e-mail from Valery Joyce in the RootsWeb Archive [http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/Bristol_and_Somerset/2000-08/0966853039] [accessed 3 February 2008]. "ex 1869 Bath Chronicle", and excerpt of which reads: "The font is octagonal upon an earlier base [...] the font is raised upon steps at the entrance". The font consists of an octagonal basin with plain sides chamfered at the upper rim; it has been re-tooled, re-cut or re-finished in relatively recent times, as the surface has a power-tool finish; it has also been repaired, probably before the re-finish, as the stone insert bears the iedentical patterns of wear as the rest of the basin; the pedestal base on which the basin now stands may indeed be earlier, perhaps of Norman date; it consists of a short stem with broader mouldings at top and bottom; it is raised on a modern square lower base and steps. The wooden cover is octagonal and flat (?) and appears relatively modern. Not mentioned in Pevsner (1958).
