There is an entry for Abberley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SO7567/abberley/] [accessed 22 October 2014]; it mentions a priest it but no church, though there probably was one there. Miller (1890) notes: "The Church of St. Michael was rebuilt in 1852. The ruins of the old church remain, the chancel being used as a mortuary chapel." The Victoria County History (Worcester, vol. 4, 1924) notes: "There was a priest at Abberley in 1086. [...] The tower, nave and western portion of the chancel date from the early 12th century"; there is no mention of a font in it. English Heritage [Listing NGR: SO7535067869] (1959) reports on the old church: "Former parish church and chancel still used for services, nave unroofed and in ruins. C12", but mentions no font in it. The English Heritage entry for the new church [Listing NGR: SO7517068003] (1984) reports a "Hexagonal stone font" in it. [NB: we have found no trace or information available on the old font from the 12th century church of St. Michael which, though replaced in the mid-19th century by the new church of St. Mary, its chancel and some parts of the nave still stand. The hexagonal font at St. Mary's, not listed here separately on account of its late date, 1852, bears an inscription in English: "One Lord, one faith, one baptism".]
