There is an entry for Woolaston [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [https://opendomesday.org/place/ST5899/woolaston/ [accesed 12 February 2019] but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The entry for this parish in the Victoria County History (Gloucester, vol. 10, 1972) notes: "The church of Woolaston was recorded in the foundation grant by Walter de Clare to Tintern Abbey in 1131. [...] Before the 19th century it appears to have been a cruciform building of 12th-century origin with an aisleless nave, the north transept forming the base of the tower", and reports a "plain octagonal font bowl" probably of the 14th century; the latter reference is footnoted: "Trans. B.G.A.S. xxxix. 86." Noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002): "Font. Plain octagonal bowl, perhaps C16, on a C19 marble shaft and plinth." The entry for this church in Historic England [Listing NGR: ST5867699343] notes: "Anglican parish church. C12 foundation, but almost entirely now of C19 'restoration' and extension. [...] octagonal C16 font on Victorian base". [NB: the sides of the font appear as if they have been partly re-tooled]. The wooden font cover is octagonal and flat, with stylised wrought iron decoration and finial.
