There are two entries for Whitsseley [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL2697/whittlesey/] [accessed 18 April 2016], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. Noted in the Victoria County History (Cambridge and the Isle of Ely, vol. 4, 2002): "St. Andrew's church was given to Ely priory by Bishop Niel (1133-69) to provide for the precentor and the care of the library. [...] This church was worth £10 in 1217 [...] The earliest surviving work is found in the west end of the south aisle, which dates from the middle of the 13th century [...] The font and other fittings are modern and poor". [NB: according to the VCH (ibid.) the original church goes back to at least 1169 [cf. supra], but we have no information on the earlier font of this church]
