Noted in Kelly's Directory (1929): "the font of Italian marble, also brought from Ely cathedral, and said to have been designed by Sir Christopher Wren, is dated 1693". Font and cover are noted in the Victoria County History (Cambridge and the Isle of Ely, vol. 4, 2002) : "a handsome font of Italian marble, dated 1693, [...] formerly in the cathedral. The font has an elaborately carved wooden cover, which is suspended from the roof by the figure of an angel." A photograph of this font [but not of the cover] by James Yardley captioned "Presented to Ely Cathedral in 1693 and later moved to Prickwillow" can be found at http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/385216 [accessed 22 November 2007]. The Cambridgeshire County Council archives catalogue (ref. 23/Z804) lists and entry for: "Lantern slide, Ely (Prickwillow): Engraving of font in Prickwillow Church (came from Ely Cathedral according to inscription)" by the Cambridge Antiquarian Society.
