There are five entries for Hatley [St George] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL2751/hatley-st-george/] [accessed 12 May 2016], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. An object [cf. infra] is reported in the Royal Commission on Historical Monuments (West Cambs., 1968) [Vol. 1. West Cambs. pp.145-151, transcribed and annotated by Bernard O’Connor, Gamlingay, September 2006, in www.members.aol.com/GamlingayP3/hatleyrchm.htm [accessed 24 October 2007]: "Stoup: (font) in nave, with moulded jambs and trefoiled head, front of bowl repaired; 14th century." The Victoria County History (Cambridge..., vol. 5, 1973) notes: "The church of Hatley St. George is not mentioned until a survey probably dating from 1217, [...] although Picot the sheriff probably gave the canons of St. Giles (later Barnwell Priory), Cambridge, a portion of the tithes of his knights there in 1092 [...] A church was consecrated at Hatley St. George in 1352"; the VCH (ibid.) further notes that the font at the time [ca. 1973?] is probably part of an early-18th century donation by "Margaret Trefusis (d. 1734)".
