There are five entries for Cottenham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TL4567/cottenham/] [accessed 28 June 2016], none of which mentions cleric or church in it. Paley's Guide (1844) has: "The font is plain octagonal". The Victoria County History (Cambridge…, vol. 9, 1989) notes: "Re-used masonry is all that remains from the 12thcentury church, many fragments being set in the outer walls, especially of the chancel. […] The rest of the church was rebuilt in the 15th century […] several times restored during the 19th century"; no font mentioned in the VCH entry. The font has graded mouldings on the lower base; otherwise plain. Octagonal pyramidal cover wirh crocketed arrises and finial; appears modern.
