There are two entries for Sutton [Cheney] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK4100/sutton-cheney/] [accessed 26 August 2015], neither of which mention cleric or priest in it. Baptismal font noted and illustrated in Upcott (1818). Noted and illustrated in Leicestershire Churches [www.leicestershirechurches.co.uk/sutton-cheney-church/] [accessed 26 August 2015]. The font cosnists of a plain bucket-shaped basin raised on a plain cylindrical pedestal base and a round moulded lower base; on an octagonal plinth; the lower base and plinth may be modern; the basin and stem have been re-tooled to a smoth finish. Dome-shaped wooden cover reminiscent of post-Reformation cover designs; appears modern.
