Font Notes:
There is an entry for this Knighton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK6001/knighton/] [accessed 3 September 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor priest in it. A font here is noted and illustrated in Upcott (1818). The Victoria County History (Leicester, vol. 4, 1958) notes: "Ecclesiastically, Knighton was separated from the parish of St. Margaret, Leicester in 1878, (fn. 53) to which it had apparently been attached since before 1086. [...] The present church [...] contains no fabric earlier than the 13th century when it probably consisted simply of chancel and nave [...] the font, although badly damaged, probably dates from the 13th century and is decorated with narrow beading at top and bottom.
