There are two entries for Ashby [Magna] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP5690/ashby-magna/] [accessed 24 July 2015], neither of which mentions cleric or church in it. A font here is noted and illustrated in Upcott (1818). Chris Jones [www.leicestershirechurches.co.uk/ashby-magna-church-st-marys/] [accessed 24 July 2015] notes: "The nave and south windows were restored in 1860 as well as the removal of a decaying gallery and pews. Also added at this time was a bath stone pulpit and font. The original font’s location and whereabouts are unknown."
