There are two entries for [Castle] Donington [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK4427/castle-donington/] [accessed 30 July 2015], one of which mentions a priest, but not a church, in it, though there probably was one there. A font here is noted and illustrated in Upcott (1818). Included in the report by the Hon. Secretary of the Derbyshire Archaeological and Natural History Society is a summary of an expedition by members of the Society to Castle Donington by A.S. Mammatt (Journal of the D..., vol. XII, 1890: xxi-xxiv), in which the font in the church is mentioned: "The font is octagonal with shields on which are roses and crosses alternately." The English Heritage entry for this church [Listing NGR: SK4470527333] (1962) reports "a C15 octagonal stone font with heraldic panels" in it. An account of this church by A. Hamilton Thompson [www.le.ac.uk/lahs/downloads/CastleDonPagesfromVolume14-1-3.pdf] [accessed 30 July 2015] reads: "There is an octagonal font of the fifteenth century, with shields, roses and other figures carved upon its faces."
