There are two entries for Stonton [Wyville] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP7395/stonton-wyville/] [accessed 26 August 2015], one of which mentions a priest, but not a church in it, though there probably was one here. Kelly's county [Leics & Rutland] directory of 1899 reoports an ancient font in this church. A font here is noted and illustrated in Upcott (1818). Descrbed in the Victoria County History (Leicestershire, vol. 5, 1964): "There was a priest at Stonton in 1086. [...] The church was much restored in the 18th and 19th centuries. [...] The plain octagonal font is probably medieval." [NB: we have no information on the font of the original church here].
