The mid-19th century church in Framilode appears to have had no early predecessor; according to the Church of England web site [www.achurchnearyou.com/framilode/] [accessed 26 July 2012]: "St Peter's Church was originally built for the workers of the Darrell estate [...] It was consecrated in 1854 and is a fine example of early Victorian church design." The Victoria County History (Gloucester, vol. 10, 1972) adds: "was 'adorned and beautified' in 1857 by the Rector of Fretherne and his wife Harriet Mary, [...] who appear to have taken a leading part in founding the new church." The font is noted in Verey & Brooks (1999-2002): "a square font (with fish-scaled pyramidal cover)", neo-Norman, of ca. 1853. Baptismal font consisting of a square basin raised on a round pedestal base and a square lower base; the sides of the basin are decorated with three pseudo-Romanesque motifs on each; the underbowl has a rope moulding all around. Low-pyramidal cover with ring handle. Both font and cover probably of the same date as the church itself.
