There is an entry for Barton[-on-the-Heath] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://domesdaymap.co.uk/place/SP2532/barton-on-the-heath/] [accessed 19 December 2014], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Warwick, vol. 5, 1949) notes: "The font, of the 15th century, is octagonal: the sides of the bowl have quatrefoiled panels with square central paterae and on the concave underside are foliage bosses. The stem has plain panels and the base is moulded. [...] The font, of the 15th century, is octagonal: the sides of the bowl have quatrefoiled panels with square central paterae and on the concave underside are foliage bosses. The stem has plain panels and the base is moulded". Baptismal font consisting of an octagonal basin with deeply carved quatrefoil panels inscrbing a floral motif in each; the underbowl moulded at the top, the chamfer decorated with large leaf motifs on each side; octagonal pedestal base with mouldings forming panels; moulded lower base; octagonal plinth. The wooden font cover is a small octagonal pyramid with a cross finial; appears modern. [NB: the font appears suspiciously new; has it been re-tooled?]
