Outside the church of St. Wilfrid, South Stainley, in the churchyard, is an old cylindrical stone vessel that resembles a font of the Norman period; the object has damage on the upper rim areas that are indicative of staples from an old cover; there is a side drain which, though uncharacteristic on Norman fonts, may very well be accounted by the later use of this object as a trough in a farm.
