Described and illustrated in The Corpus of Romanesque Sculpture in Britain and Ireland [http://www.crsbi.ac.uk/ed/wa/quint/index.htm] [accessed 23 June 2008]: "Tub- shaped with circular lead-lined bowl. Upper two-thirds of bowl has plain but vertically tooled surface. The lower third features scallops (20 in number) with plain recessed shields and plain cones sloping slightly downward toward the recessed supporting drum, thus forming the underside. Immediately above the scallops, a plain band surmounted by a shallow roll. Several shields have traces of red paint. The supporting drum is plain except for a roll at upper third level above which the drum reduces in diameter. The font rests upon two circular steps, the top step extended northward, meeting the N wall forming a parallel-sided platform. There is a diagonal crack in the bowl down the NW side and two stone repairs at the rim. It was placed in this position during the 1864 restoration". The CRSBI (ibid.) dates the font to the late 12th century and comments on its state of repair: "The lower third of the bowl and upper two thirds of the pedestal are badly affected by green mould or moss, greatly marring its appearance. Possibly a leaking lead lining".
