The entry for this church in the Italian Wikipedia [https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basilica_di_Santa_Maria_in_Cosmedin] [accessed 21 August 2025]
reports a baptismal font fashioned from Roma expolia by Pope Benedict XIII in the 18th century; it consists of an urn-shaped basin decorated with foliage motifs, on a pedestal base that is probably a modern replacement: "La prima cappella della navata di sinistra è il battistero, edificato nel 1727; al suo interno vi è il fonte battesimale, costituito da un reperto erratico romano decorato a rilievo con tralci di vite e di edera, donato per assolvere a tale funzione da papa Benedetto XIII." For a digital photograph of the font in context taken 5 September 2014 by Ragusaibla in Wikimedia see [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:14_Santa_Maria_in_Cosmedin.PNG] [accessed 21 August 2025], and another showing its cover as well taken 21 August 2024 by Joseolgon, also in Wikimedia [https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Santa_Maria_in_Cosmedin_(Baptismal_font).jpg] [accessed 21 August 2025] [NB: also in this church is a holy-water stoup, probably of late date -- not listed separately in this Index]
